Twelve variations on a single ascending shift, each one a semitone higher than the last.
A study disguised as a recital piece. The material is one left-hand shift; the variations move it up the instrument a semitone at a time until the twelfth lands on the harmonic node above the fingerboard.
Playable from memory in around five and a half minutes. A version for cello is available on request.
