Three short movements tracking a single afternoon under the cherry trees, from first light to falling petals.
The suite follows the shape of a hanami afternoon. The opening movement is almost motionless: five sustained notes, re-voiced twenty-two times. The second is a scherzo built from overheard fragments — conversation, a distant train, a child counting.
The finale is a slow disintegration. The wind takes the blossom, and the quintet is reduced to bassoon alone.
